Snoop Dogg Introduces 'Death Row Pro' Production Music Division in Collaboration with Sony Music Publishing's Extreme Music
Launched in 1997, Extreme Music has established offices in various global locations, including Berlin, Stockholm, Sydney, New York, and Los Angeles, with its headquarters situated in London.
The company's impressive roster features renowned artists such as Quincy Jones, Hans Zimmer, Sir George Martin, Snoop Dogg, Two Steps from Hell, and Labrinth, among others.
Russell Emanuel founded the company in 1997, and it was later acquired by Sony Music Publishing in 2008. In 2020, Sony Music Publishing integrated its two production music divisions, Extreme Music and EMI Production Music, into a unified global operation, appointing Russell Emanuel as its President & CEO.
Notably, the launch of Death Row Pro was announced just a day after Snoop Dogg, the former UMG executive, appointed Kat MacLean Daley as the VP & Head of Publishing at Death Row Records, which he acquired the previous year. MacLean Daley directly reports to Snoop Dogg and oversees the day-to-day music operations, focusing particularly on the newly established publishing business.
expressed his admiration for Kat MacLean Daley, highlighting her significant contributions to setting sampling standards and expanding into new genres. He also emphasized his desire to bring her drive and discipline to Death Row. Additionally, Snoop Dogg and Russell Emanuel expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership between Extreme Music and the DEATH ROW PRO series, with Snoop Dogg citing it as an honor.
Death Row Records, established in 1991, is credited with introducing a distinctive sound to the hip-hop genre and popularizing West Coast gangster rap globally, with hits like Nuthin But A ‘G’ Thang and Let Me Ride and iconic albums such as Dr. Dre’s The Chronic and Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle.
Following Snoop Dogg's acquisition of the Death Row brand from MNRK Music Group, he proceeded to acquire the label's recording catalog and removed it from streaming services. Subsequently, in collaboration with TikTok and through the independent distribution platform SoundOn, the Death Row Records catalog became exclusively available for streaming on TikTok for a week before returning to music streaming services.
The catalog's reintroduction to streaming services coincided with news of gamma's series of agreements, including a partnership with Snoop Dogg and the Death Row catalog, as part of the initiatives of gamma, a new company with $1 billion in backing founded by former Apple Music Global Creative Director Larry Jackson.
